I have been told that I am very critical (sometimes too critical) of the movies that I see. For a movie to get a good rating, I need to be happy with the writing, the acting, the believability of the action scenes, and anything else I can think of while I am watching it.
My favorite movies are the ones where I leave the theatre thinking, "man, I wish I could have written that". But on the contrary, when I hate a movie my friends wish I had gone alone because they have to hear every reason why (over and over again).
The following is a brief description of how each rating reflects my opinion of the movie. Hopefully, this will provide you with an insight into my movie watching experience and help you get the most out of my reviews.
Rating of 10
A fantastic movie that is perfect in every aspect.
Rating of 9
The movie is wonderful, but not worthy of a ten. It could be that something little irritated me, it was not unique enough, or I did not feel that it deserved to be in the company of the “tens”. Nonetheless, the movie is a must see.
Rating of 8
A movie that I thoroughly enjoyed. Anything with a rating of eight or higher is highly recommended.
Rating of 7
I tend to think this is my most common rating. The best way to describe it is to say that if you go to a movie that you expect to be pretty good, and it meets your expectations, I would give it a seven.
Rating of 6
I enjoyed it, but at times I may have been bored, frustrated, etc.
Rating of 5
A very average movie. It was nothing special, and it is on the borderline of whether it is worth watching. Overall, the good and bad qualities balance out.
Rating of 4
This is the top of the line for movies that I don’t recommend. For one reason or another, you should find something else to watch.
Rating of 3
The movie is bordering on painful. Major fidgeting is happening in my seat. At times, the movie may have had promise but it failed miserably.
Rating of 2
We have hit painful. However, there is something about the movie that keeps it from being associated with the “ones”. If I was not reviewing movies, I would not have finished it.
Rating of 1
There is nothing of value in the movie. If you watch it, you will wish you had that time in your life back. |
