My apologies to Ms. Foster. I personally vilified her for deciding not to participate in this movie on ... GASP ... PRINCIPLE!! I have a newfound respect and admiration for Ms. Foster. It's a hackneyed line but must be repeated once more: some sequels should not be made.
Anthony Hopkins, of course, is brilliant as the calm, yet terrifying, Dr. Hannibal Lecter, but the story is totally devoid of any real suspense. Suspense is what made Silence of the Lambs so special! In Silence of the Lambs, a serial killer had to be identified, located, and stopped before he could claim his next victim. Time was running out, and Dr. Lecter was orchestrating the drama from his cell in an insane asylum. This just in ... THAT'S SUSPENSEFUL!! You will have no such luck with this movie. It takes a long time to get anywhere, and when you're there, you'll wish that you had missed the ride.
The soundtrack was superbly chosen to illustrate, through music, the serenity with which the Cannibal butchers and consumes his meals. If you listen carefully, you will notice The Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G, Movement 1, by Johann Sebastian Bach - one of my personal favorites!! |
