I enjoyed the first Urban Legend movie. When this one came out, I was hoping against all hope that they made a real effort to produce a sequel worth watching. After sitting through it, I would say they made a considerable effort to keep the theme while not banking entirely on the first movie. Usually, I would say that a sequel without the original cast was a bad sign. In this case, I think it worked well. In fact, it was cool to see how they wrote a totally different plot around the same “urban legend” theme.
The movie takes place at a film school and it’s one of those movies where they are making a movie inside of the movie. Because of this, they played on the ploys of film students whose friends were disappearing while they filmed a horror movie. I’d definitely say they went a bit overboard with some of the special effects (blood and guts) but I’ve seen much worse.
I gave this a five, which is pretty much what I expected to see. It had the same type of wacky ending that the first one… by the end, you’re suspecting everyone of bring a murderer and yet still surprised to find out who it is. In the end, I think people that liked the first movie, Urban Legend, will enjoy this one as well. I’d recommend renting that one first, though. |
