I generally like movies that depict the triumph of human spirit, and this movie has characters who are courageous when faced with life-threatening situations. Space travel, of course, is inherently dangerous. I enjoyed being able to feel suffocated by the desperation of these life-threatening situations.
Is this movie an explanation of Mars' history? Perhaps, but it is doubtful based on what we currently understand. Terrans do find it difficult to comprehend that there may be more advanced beings in the universe. When it comes right down to it, we have absolutely no idea, either religiously of scientifically, what really happened in the universe to get to this point in our history. I could genuinely appreciate, however remote to my humble understanding, that this theory is a possibility. If nothing else, it is provocatively interesting.
To keep things in perspective, in the late 1960's, when Captain Kirk used his communicator to say "Beam me up, Scotty", who really knew then that cell phones were in the foreseeable future? Who really knows what we'll know in 2020? |
