When a woman dumps a man, it's generally true that the man never sees it coming. We're pretty much clueless to the subtle signals that women send out - including the impending vibes that she's about to extricate herself from the relationship. It's also generally true that when a man doesn't see it coming, he spends some time reflecting on what went wrong. But men are different creatures - we're analysts - and the more we don't see it coming, the more time we spend reflecting. We tend to put every little minutiae under the microscope and obsess about it. This is the norm, and the basic plot of the movie. This movie, however, deviates from the norm in that Rob Gordon (John Cusack) shares our secret as a movie. Men DON'T obsess out loud about failed relationships! A REAL man suffers in silence-ever the capable martyr. We reflect until blood starts to trickle from our ears.
The makers of this movie knew they had a real dog on their hands. That's why they had to play the "dupe-an- unsuspecting-audience-with-the-trailer-bait-and-switch" card. The trailer gave absolutely no indication as to what the movie was truly about. If I actually wanted to experience this, I could have continued to live my life for that two hours, THANK-YOU VERY MUCH!! |
