As I sat watching ÒFreddy Got FingeredÓ, I wondered, where will this end? Specifically, I mean the trend MTV spawned in the 90Õs with ÒBeavis & ButtheadÓ, and has continued with ÒThe Tom Green ShowÓ, and now ÒJackass.Ó I suppose honorable mention should be given to Comedy Central for ÒSouth ParkÓ, but I think MTV should take the bulk of the blame. IÕm talking about sick, disgusting, perverted humor. Sure it's funny, but how often do you want to feel nauseous? (Side note regarding MTVÉIÕm far more likely to get violently ill from watching an episode of ÒThe Real WordÓ or a Mariah Carrey video than from ÒJackassÓ)
So who, besides me, laughs at this gross business? LotÕs of kids, for starters, and probably lots of abnormal wanna-be kids like me. Anyway, from the looks of the audience in the theater, thereÕs probably many more of the former, but thatÕs OK. Who wants to be normal?
Beastiality, violence against children, and somehow finding humor in sex with the handicapped is all fair game for Tom Green in his directorial debut. There appears to be no limit to what Tom will do to make you feel uncomfortable. And as the movie progresses, it gets old. But I did laugh, very hard at times, and that is all that kept me from siding with my fellow reviewers and giving this movie two kernels.
My advice, if youÕre an avid MTV fan, and have a strong stomach, you just might be able to sit through ÒFreddy Got FingeredÓ. Otherwise, you better stick to VH1. |
