I lived through the television series of which the movie is based, but unlike most impressionable adolescents who were mesmerized by Farrah's teeth and hair, I found Jaclyn Smith to be the most attractive Angel. It should come as no surprise that the Lucy Liu character would be my favorite Angel from the movie. From watching the trailer, I fully expected Ms. Liu to be typecast in a chilly role similar to the one she plays on "Ally McBeal," but thankfully, this wasn't the case. Easily, her character was the most intelligent and cultured of the three, and this only enhanced her sex appeal. I also fully expected the Cameron Diaz character to be the typical dim-witted blond direct from Central Casting. Again, this wasn't the case! (Who makes these trailers anyway?) Diaz was lovable for her childlike innocence and energy.
The special effects and action sequences were quite impressive, bordering on spectacular. These chicks are tough and kick ass when necessary, but there are enough tongue-in-cheek moments where the obvious intent is to not take this movie version too seriously in comparison to the television series.
Go see it. I can't wait for a sequel! |
