Many times before, I decided to stop watching British movies. Mainly because I miss half of the lines since I can’t understand the dialogue. It was probably good that I saw this one on VHS, because I was able to rewind the tape when I missed a part. I am sure, however, that I will be saying the same thing again when I watch my next British film.
Overall, I found this movie to be rather boring. In fact, if I would have watched it a little later in the evening, I may have had difficulty staying awake. Going in, I thought this was going to be a laugh-out-loud comedy. Although it is classified as a drama, it was much less humorous than I was expecting.
The highlight of the film was the child actors. Often times, I think the children cast in movies are not really ready to be actors. But, I have had one acting class in my life so I understand just how difficult acting can be. Personally, I never got to the point where I was even a remotely decent actor. This was definitely not the case with “Billy Elliot”. All of the child actors were fantastic.
I had high hopes for this movie, and I was disappointed that it didn’t meet my expectations. |
