Bo Derek (at least thirtysomething at the time) plays a recent boarding school graduate out to lose her virginity (a "gift" for some lucky guy) and experience extasy. Yes, that's how she wants to spell it.
Her first attempt is unsuccessful-the wealthy sheik falls asleep before consummation. Her next target is the suave, Spanish bullfighter. Before he receives her gift, she asks him to show her EVERYTHING that he can do for her and EVERYTHING that she can do for him. He agrees, but then awkwardly mounts her-no foreplay, exceedingly unromantic. The most laughable love scene occurs at the end of the movie. Bo and the bullfighter finally do it for the second time, and the scene turns dreamlike (complete with a bright, white mist.) In the background, you eventually see TWO flashing neon signs-one spelled "extasy", the other, "ecstasy."
This movie is as shallow as an ancient, dried-out lake bed. The only believable thing about Bo playing a much younger, virginal woman is the dialogue-written to be uncomplicated, unintelligent, and juvenile. I suspect that this was by accident rather than by design. |
