I was under the impression that the story was about a chunky girl and her struggles to find a man - not exactly my idea of an enjoyable night at the movies. My first reaction was she should loose some weight and the problem is solved. In any case, with this storyline they could have found a actress that was actually overweight.
I was surprised to find that the movie was generally entertaining. I even found myself laughing out loud at times. The characters were all well portrayed with their own unique quirks. In my limited exposure to Rene Zellweger, I have never been a big fan. However, I think she played this role as well as anyone could. To me, this movie falls under the category of a romantic comedy that guys may actually enjoy. Plus, if we watch without complaining, it gives us a little leverage for next week’s movie selection. |
