I generally do not find stories about marital infidelity to be romantic-regardless of how much the adulterers "love" each other. It's just so fundamentally wrong!! To make matters even less tolerable, Ralph Fiennes (one of the adulterers) plays a surly, abrasive S.O.B. of which you cannot feel any sympathy. Without likable characters or a likable plotline, I found nothing to enjoy-not even the caring nurse Hana (Juliette Binoche).
I may have enjoyed the movie if the love between the adulterers was unrequited |
