My Review: |

This movie is truly a masterpiece, a work of art, excelling on absolutely every level, sitting in its rightful place in the pantheon that mere mortal movies never dream of reaching. Attention was paid to every remarkable detail of the lavish sets and costuming. Not only was the music perfectly beautiful and appropriate, we are also blessed with explanations of Mozart's genius.
Along with the powerful performances of the supporting cast, these are just the icing on the cake. F. Murray Abraham (Antonio Salieri) easily gives one of the greatest lead performances in cinematic history. Never has an actor portrayed so many emotions-elation, humiliation, jealousy, embarrassment, condescension, and so many more-with just his face.
This movie also teaches an important lesson that's timeless and should be heeded by everyone: regardless of who we are and who we think we are, there will always be at least one person who is better...unless you happen to be a "Mozart." Puts things into perspective, doesn't it?
Well...there it is. |
