Easily, my most indescribably profound movie experience.
Oskar Schindler (Liam Neeson) was a man, by his own admission, fraught by numerous shortcomings: a member of the Nazi Party, a war profiteer who amassed a vast wealth on slave labor, a womanizer, an adulterer, a criminal, a manipulator, etc. A failure at marriage, his only business success occurred during World War II.
But Schindler's immeasurable contribution to humanity transcends his character flaws. He is righteous. He was one man with the courage to make a difference during one of the darkest times in recent history.
I will love any movie that has this type of story to tell - the triumph of human character and spirit. I truly believe that some people are chosen to make a significant difference, and Schindler's actions were not just a random series of events. By the same token, Steven Spielberg was chosen to tell the story of a man whose rightful place in history has been unknown or overlooked by most.
