Mainstream audiences should enjoy this movie-a standard Disney animation where Good vanquishes Evil. Even though I agree with the MPAA PG rating, I believe that the violent imagery will be disturbing to some children. Parents just assume and expect that Disney movies are categorically safe for all ages. Maybe I'm just out of touch with the barrage of violence that desensitizes children, but parents should be prepared to actually practice "parental guidance" during these scenes. In addition, young children will not comprehend some of the spiritual or supernatural references (as actually witnessed in the theater from all the children around me who were heard asking, "what happened?").
For myself, I really enjoyed this movie. One thing that animators can create better than most actors is characters that EXPRESSIVELY EMOTE-regardless of what emotion is being portrayed. This makes it much easier for me to become emotionally involved in the characters and plot, and consequently, increase my enjoyment of the movie. Plus, how could I not like a story where a chick falls for the brainy dude? |
