What began as a Stanley Kubrick idea in 1994, has finally been finished by another great movie maker – Steven Spielberg. Spielberg did a wonderful job developing “A.I.: Artificial Intelligence” the way Kubrick would have done it. In fact, I thought the movie was more similar in style to the other Kubrick movies I have seen than it was to previous Spielberg pictures. From the beginning to the end, I had no idea where the movie was taking me. Yet, I was eager to find out.
It takes a real genius to make a great movie out of a difficult subject. One that could have very easily turned into a movie like “The 6th Day", where the storyline gets muddled with too many futuristic details. But, that’s the difference you come to expect from a Spielberg film. And, in this one he didn’t disappoint.
Much like "State and Main", which I watched last weekend, I thought the casting was perfect. Every character was well portrayed, especially the leading roles for the artificial intelligent beings (Haley Joel Osment and Jude Law). Both were fabulous for their parts. The one negative I have to say is that the 2 hour and 25 minute running time felt long. However, that may have been because I needed to use the rest room approximately 2 minutes after the movie began. (My suggestion is to use the facility just before the movie starts, and only buy a SMALL coke.) |
