By not cranking-up the hype machine for this movie, Steven Spielberg deftfully created an aura of mystery surrounding it - what a masterstroke!! Moviegoers really have no idea what they're going to experience, and if they think they know what they're going to experience, they will be wrong...on so many levels.
I usually roll my eyes with disdain when movies feature children, but Haley Joel Osment's performance as the child "mecha" David is hauntingly remarkable. For someone so young, his talent far surpasses most adult actors. You will sympathize with David, for he is an innocent victim of some of human nature's most contemptable characteristics, including SELFISH love.
I found the movie engrossing from beginning to end. It was tragic...and wonderful to watch. |
