I know what you have heard about this movie - itÕs the same thing everyone has heard. ...ÒBattlefield EarthÓ was the proud recipient of seven ÒGolden Raspberry AwardsÓ for 2001, so it must be a horrible movie. (IÕm not sure how they determine the awards, but "Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2" only received one award so I canÕt put much stock in them.) Well, with some of the lousy pictures I have watched, I had to see it for myself. I found it hard to believe that any sci-fi movie could be worse than "Pitch Black". And, not to my surprise, I was correct.
Actually, I found ÒBattlefield EarthÓ to be enjoyable. The biggest problem was overcoming the negativity of the people watching it with me. Almost immediately after it began, I heard complaining about how bad it was. I was not even sure what was happening yet, and it was being described as a movie worthy of a 1 out of 10 rating. All of the bad publicity seemed to distort their ability to give it a chance.
Overall, I found the story to be interesting, but some of the special effects (ok, most) were a little poor. If you are a sci-fi fan, I think you may enjoy it. However, if you choose to watch it, you need to do so with an open mind. ÒBattlefield EarthÓ may not be a masterpiece, but I donÕt think it was worthy of all the bad press. |
