Overall, I enjoyed "The Score". Although there really isn't anything unique about this movie, it's always cool to see Robert De Niro play a bad guy (his "dad" role in Meet the Parents really didn't work for me). And I have to admit I liked the onscreen interaction between De Niro and Edward Norton (he's awesome), but I really didn't believe the half-hearted relationship between De Niro and Angela Bassett. Why do movies always throw in a love interest when there's no time to really develop a believable relationship?
Anyway, my major hangup is with Marlon Brando. I know they cast him for his audience recognition, but the movie would've been better off without him! I think that he's so morbidly overweight that it's affecting his ability to speak clearly. I thought it was hard to understand him, and even harder to look at him! Seeing his performance in this movie caused me to drop my rating a kernel or two.
So there it is, I thought "The Score" was basically entertaining, but not as good as other De Niro/robber movies, like "Heat" or "Good Fellas". |
