The computer animation was phenomenal. I had heard about the work that went into making the movie realistic, and in that aspect they were successful. However, IÕm not sure it was worth all the effort. I had a very difficult time taking a dramatic animated film seriously. To me, animation should be more about fun and comedy, like ÒToy StoryÓ. ÒFinal FantasyÓ was too serious and even involved crying at one point. (Who really wants to watch a cartoon cry Ð and kiss for that matter?)
For all the energy spent to create this film, they could have used a little more to match the voices with the charactersÕ lip movements. At times, I felt like I was watching Kung-Fu Theatre. However, the movieÕs biggest flaw was the gaps in the storyline. The characters had a quest to gather 8 spirits. But, from the beginning of the movie until the end, I was never sure why they were needed or how they knew they needed them.
I would love to recommend the movie for its animation quality, but I just canÕt do it. Even with all the action, my mind was constantly wandering as I waited anxiously for it to end. |
