Every time I see the commercials for the various psychic hotlines, I wonder how people could be dumb enough to buy into them. Watching the psychics in action, you can see them fishing for information so they can tell the person what they want to hear.
Psychic: Was there someone in your life that hurt you as a child?
Person: No.
Psychic: I did not think so because I see a happy childhood.
If the answer would have been YES:
Psychic: I thought so because I can see your suffering.
With all the phony-baloneys out there, you still hear stories of psychics that help police solve impossible cases. Stories involving missing children, unsolved murders, and the like. So where does the truth lie?
“The Gift” looks at the life of a Annie Wilson (played by Cate Blanchett). A woman who supports her three young children on the limited social security money from her husband’s death, and her “gift” for reading the future. Some of the town’s people think she is the real thing, while others think she is a con artist, and still others a witch.
"The Gift" is filled with suspense and well known actors and actresses. I consider it a well made cross between "Wild Things" and "What Lies Beneath". At times, it moved a little slowly. Otherwise, my rating would have been a notch higher. If you are looking for a quality suspense film, “The Gift” is definitely worth renting. |
