I'm not big fans of any of the major actors in this film. I regularly take potshots at both Julia Roberts (Kiki) and John Cusack (Eddie Thomas), but each did a decent enough job to not destroy my interest. Catherine Zeta-Jones (Gwen Harrison) performed particularly well as the tempermental, prima donna actress, but she probably had the easiest role that required little depth. I also enjoyed the behind-the-scenes look at movie promotion-comically exaggerrated for effect, but probably closer to the truth than one would expect.
Unfortunately, I wasn't sold on the romance that blossomed (actually, it erupted out of nowhere) between Kiki and Eddie. I just didn't believe that clarity would suddenly strike Eddie like lightning because very little was presented to support this notion. |
