Once again, I apologize for that tagline, but I wanted to make a point. I can overlook the fact that this is another example of Hollywood's lack of creativity, that Mark "Marky-Mark" Wahlberg isn't exactly riveting as an action hero, and Charleton Heston's ridiculous deathbed scene. But what I can't overlook is the ending. I suppose that just by ranting about it, I'm giving it away, but I can't help myself! I thought the controversial "surprise ending" was confusing, silly, and an all too obvious opening for the inevitable sequel.
Whew! Now that I got that out of the way, let me tell you what I liked, which was basically everything else. As expected, the apes were INCREDIBLE! Did I say that strongly enough? In fact, I think Tim Roth should be nominated for an academy award for his portrayal of the errily realistic General Thade. He WILL give you the creeps! And that goes for all of the ape-actors, just an incredible job. And even more astonishing then the apes, where did they find Kris Kristofferson?
I love Tim Burton's films, and in general, this one is no exception. Despite the ending, I'd recommend that you see this movie. I'm looking forward to renting this when it comes out, just to pick up on what I missed the first time. Maybe I'll get the ending the second time around! |
