This movie moved way too slowly for me. At one point, I actually debated going out to the lobby for a few minute break (never a good sign during a movie). Combine this with the dark and dreary feel that you would expect if this was a Tim Burton movie, and that pretty much sums it up.
The movie was touted as a suspense film, but I did not really see it as one. To me, suspense means that I will be on the edge of my seat from excitement Ð not because IÕm sliding forward as I drift off to sleep. In fact, there was only one time during the movie that I felt any real suspense (sorry Matt for hitting you when I jumped).
Nicole Kidman did an adequate, but nothing special job, in her role as a mother trying to protect her two young children from the horrible disease that afflicts them. On the other hand, I found the acting of her two children (played by Alakina Mann and James Bentley) to be quite good. I thought they each did an excellent job in their first major motion picture.
Overall, the story was not poorly written, poorly acted, or poorly directed. It just wasnÕt entertaining. For this reason, I had to give a rating of four. Anything higher means that it may be worth watching, and I just could not recommend watching ÒThe OthersÓ. |
