Fine acting, intelligent character development, and an ethereal setting create a superbly-crafted and surprising story. It would be difficult to go into too much detail on the movie specifics without spoiling the plot. Although the movie is short on genuinely frightening moments, the psychologically thrilling aspects throughout successfully capture the audience.
Nicole Kidman (Grace) is convincing as a mother who descends slowly into madness. Alakina Mann (Anne) and James Bentley (Nicholas) display their respective precocius talents as her children who possess a rare and potentially fatal sensitivity to sunlight. Fionnula Flanagan (Mrs. Mills) rounds out the central cast as the seemingly straigtforward but increasingly mysterious nanny. |
