This movie opens just like every other movie from this ilk: Orin Boyd (Steven Seagal), an undisciplined, renegade cop, acts on instinct rather than by by-the-book methods. Of course, he is wildly successful, but much to the chagrin of his superiors. I thought to myself, "self, this movie will easily fit the Hollywood assembly line mold."
I jumped, nay, I LEAPED to the wrong conclusion after a mere 10 minutes. The similarities pretty much ended there. There are quite a few surprises along the way. Some, of which, you will see coming. The ones that you won't see coming will make you appreciate the fact that some original thought was actually exercised during its development.
Another aspect of this movie that I should have loathed was the gratuitous violence. However, I found the raw, graphic depiction refreshingly hard-hitting. |
