This movie strikes a warm and familiar chord in all of us - the hope that a higher plan for us may exist and that true soulmates eventually do find each other if they recognize the messages that are mysteriously sent from beyond. Is there anyone out there who doesn't hope or hasn't hoped for this? (Probably yes, and I genuinely feel saddened by their lack of emotional depth.)
Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale) plant clever seeds at the beginning of the movie to playfully tempt fate to determine if, in fact, they are destined to be together. Years later, when they are about to marry others, events draw them back to each other through numerous, powerful signals. As improbable as these events really are, the romantic person in each of us cannot help but root for the destined reunion of Jonathan and Sara. Except for the non-evolved, WE ALL DREAM OF THIS!!
By the way, for those of you who saw the movie, did you notice the one winter scene where John Cusack kicks some snow out of frustration? Looks familiar, doesn't it? No? Try this - have Mr. Cusack play Buck Weaver, the 3rd Baseman for the 1919 Chicago White ("Black") Sox in the movie "Eight Men Out." He doesn't kick snow in that movie, but he does kick some infield dirt out of frustration the EXACT SAME WAY! An homage, perhaps? ... Hmmm? ... |
