I thought “From Hell” was overly violent, overly graphic, and overly produced, but not overly entertaining. There was a slight amount of suspense as you tried to determine who Jack the Ripper really was, but the suspense was far outweighed by the rest of the mediocre film. In fact, by the time I learned who Jack was, I didn’t care anymore. I was just glad the movie was coming to a close.
I respect Johnny Depp for constantly taking on challenging and widely varying roles. And, he alone was the reason I had an interest in seeing “From Hell”. I think many people will see this movie for the same reason, and I think many of them will also leave disappointed. |
