I may be writing this review long after I first watched this movie, but I still vividly remember how smothered I felt by the tense desperation of the times. I'm not sure that this movie can ever have the same impact that it did in 1990 since the "Evil Empire" collapsed shortly thereafter. Everyone who lived during this time was gravely concerned with the Cold War, but we now know that, in the 1980's, top government officials realized that the Soviet Union would eventually collapse. Looking back on this time, we can never feel the same way-that World War III was a distinct possibility. It may still be a possibility, but it doesn't seem as likely with our current peace and prosperity.
The years may have passed, and the movie now seems dated, but at the time, it was on-the-edge-of-your-seat thrilling!! EASILY, the best action film I have ever seen! |
