I'll say it once more: Why the allusion to "Oklahoma!"? Of course, I'm not talking about the state; I'm talking about the 1943 musical by Rogers and Hammerstein. If you missed the allusion, please permit me to elaborate. In the movie, Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) is raised by his uncaring Aunt and Uncle because his parents are dead. When Harry is old enough, Gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane) arrives to take the unknowing wizard from these meanies to attend wizard school. Harry's caretakers have lied to him all his short life about his parents. When Hagrid learns of this, he exclaims, "It's an outrage! It's a scandal!." ...... Even after pointing this out to you, I see you scratching your head, so I'll elaborate even further. "Oklahoma!" has a famous song entitled "It's a Scandal! It's an Outrage!" This clearly cannot be coincidence. I just wish I knew why.
Obviously, kids will love this movie. It's cool that the Harry Potter phenomenon has inspired a generation of kids (and even adults) to read. But as far as movies go, the hype greatly outweighs the enjoyment. I can't give a higher rating when I liked other movies more than this one, but still gave those movies the same rating as this one. |
