This movie is well on its way to being the highest grossing movie of the year. During opening weekend, it grossed over $90 million - almost $20 million more than the now second place film. But, that was almost expected with news crews at every theatre and the film showing on nearly _ of all screens throughout the country.
Am I the only person that never heard of Harry Potter before the announcement of the movie? Other people seem to know all about the stories, the stores are now filled with Harry Potter books and merchandise, and people bought tickets two weeks in advance just to ensure their seat on opening night. If it wasnÕt for all this hoopla, I would have expected Harry Potter and the SorcererÕs Stone to be just one more book to movie adaptation. Ahh, I guess I would have been wrong.
The challenge is for the film version of Harry Potter to live up to the high expectations of all the book reading children (correction - all the book reading children and adults). Although I have not read the books, the movie was much better than I was expecting. The story captivated the audience, and the characters were highly enjoyable Š even the ones you were not supposed to like. On the negative side, the 2 _-hour running time felt a little too long for the movie. Although, maybe just for me since I was more fidgety than the hundreds of kids sitting around me. If the running time was a little shorter, I would have given it a higher rating.
If you were planning to see Harry Potter, you will not be disappointed. However, if you were not, it may be worth going to see a movie where the hype is more than just that. |
