This movie was better than I expected! I mean - as far as I'm concerned, how can a movie be bad with 2 of my favorite actors, Robert Redford and Brad Pitt? I just figured this would be your typical "action-spy movie", but it's not. Sure, it's filled with silly cliches. This is apparent from almost the first scene - but if you can acknowledge that and go on - you will thoroughly enjoy this movie.
Robert Redford plays Nathan Muir, a CIA operative on his last day of work. He finds out that his protege', Tom Bishop (Brad Pitt) has been taken hostage in a Chinese prison and will be executed in 24 hours. What Muir can't understand is why the CIA would let this happen without any assistance. This is where the movie unfolds and sucks you in!
It is great to see Redford back on the big screen. He still ranks very high on my actors list.
I'm sure you're asking 'then why only a 7 if i'm raving about the movie?' I'll tell ya... the first part of the movie seemed a little long in parts. I'm sure it was all necessary to get the information to the audience... but I couldn't help think at one point in the movie - "are you sure this is only a 2 hour movie?" So that took a little of the enjoyment away for me. HOWEVER! You should see this film, if for nothing else, the last 1/2 hour! You won't regret it! |
