I've never read the famed trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien, so I was looking forward to the indoctrination by cinema. Unfortunately, I was not in the proper condition to sit through a 3-hour movie. I never check my watch during a movie, but I checked it TWICE during this one.
Don't get me wrong, the acting throughout the cast is superb with some dazzling effects and breathtaking cinematography. But for a fantasy/adventure movie, it is loooong on dialogue and short on action. Normally, I would appreciate this depth of character development, but my body wished that it was in Nanchang. On top of the extensive dialogue, the actors had such a soothing, calming, and mellowing tone that it was a constant struggle to remain awake.
It's a decent movie, but I can wait for the sequel. My biggest complaint with "The Fellowship of the Ring" is 3 hours without any REAL resolution. |
