Try and remember the excitement you felt back in high school each and every day you entered math class. The chill the ran down your spine when you were first introduced to a double integral. Or, the butterflies in your stomach the day you were scheduled to learn about imaginary numbers. Can you remember? No. Why not? Maybe itŐs because math isn't exciting! Even though I was one of the students that was very good in math, the feeling in my stomach was always closer to nausea than butterflies. Now, just imagine the actual feelings you had translated into a 2 _ hour movie. DoesnŐt that make you want to jump up and head to the theatre before you can even finish reading my review?
ŇA Beautiful MindÓ is getting all types of critical acclaim for the acting, the writing, and the directing. Yet, somewhere in the mix, entertainment has been overlooked. And for me, this movie provided very little.
If you have a desire to see a mathematical movie, my recommendation is to see ŇGood Will HuntingÓ. I think it is a much better movie in every aspect (including entertainment) and it even made me proud to be a math wiz. |
