Have you ever seen the Seinfeld episode where Jerry and George are trying to get a pilot for their TV show ÒJerryÓ. They are sitting in a meeting with some television executives when George tries to explain the showÕs concept. The exchange went something like this:
George: I think I can sum up the show for you with one word - "Nothing".
TV Exec: Nothing?
George: Nothing.
TV Exec: What does that mean?
George: What did you do today?
TV Exec: I got up and came to work.
George: There's a show! That's the show!
TV Exec: How is that a show?
Jerry: Well, maybe something happens to you on the way to work.
George: No! No! No! Nothing Happens!
Jerry: Well, something happens!
TV Exec: Why am I watching it?
George: Because it's on TV!
TV Exec: Not yet...
There were a solid 45 minutes in the middle of this movie that looked like a ÒJerryÓ pilot gone bad. A scene where someone got up and went to work would have actually been welcomed entertainment.
Build up the characters. Work on my emotions. Drag out the story. But, for all that is good and holy, ENTERTAIN ME!!!!! |
