This is a warning for all you subtitle haters out thereÉget ready! It's in French, oui?
I loved how director Jean-Pierre Jeunet tells the story of this introverted yet adventurous young French woman. I thought it was really unique and entertaining! He does a fantastic job in making this movie touching but not too schmoopy, entertaining but not over the top, and absolutely unlike anything I've seen. He also directed "The City of Lost Children", which I've heard was pretty cool as well. I have the DVD sitting by the TV (thanks Tim) and hopefully I'll get to watch it this weekÉstay tuned!
I also enjoyed Audrey Tautou's portrayal of Amelie, and I'm looking forward to seeing her in other roles. She's a cutie, and seems to have a good sense for comedy.
Another interesting thing about "Amelie" is that you get to learn about all the little quirks each character has almost as soon as they are introduced on screen. Why? Who knows, but itŐs fun! Also, when you see the tricks Amelie plays on people (partly to help them and partly for her own entertainment) I guarantee you will be howling in your seat! I swear I was laughing so hard I was actually embarrassed.
Anyway, I think we all needed something like this to soften the blow of all these war movies coming out. Take a date, and be prepared to laugh, smile, etc. If you have a heart, and aren't afraid to show it, you should really enjoy this movie. Did I just actually say that? |
