When a movie with a relatively amusing premise drags the humor out a little beyond its useful life, you can expect the overall rating to be no higher than a 6. “40 Days and 40 Nights” was exactly that type of movie. It started off entertaining, but my enjoyment waned faster than the movie progressed. Yet, even with that, I found myself laughing at times and my rating was holding pretty steady at a 6. Then, in an instant, the movie fell into the great abyss of sucko endings.
It’s been two days since I watched “40 Days and 40 Nights”, and in that time I have yet to think of another movie with an ending worse than this one. The movie’s great build up was so stupid, idiotic, moronic, and any other term the thesaurus can provide that I felt like the writers were saying “got ya!” because they had me thinking that their movie was actually worth watching. If you waste your time and money and see it anyway, you’ll know the exact instant I’m referring to. I know some movies have various endings that producers show to focus groups to find out which one tests the best. There is NO way that was done for this film.
Regardless how I felt through most of the movie, the climax disappointed me to the point that I wished I hadn’t watched any of it. |
