The story develops slowly, deliberately - carefully unfolding until you get hit right between the eyes with an unsuspected surprise. The delivery of this surprise is effective if you don't mind being lulled by the tranquilizing effect of the storytelling - calm dialogue, little action, a series of events with two different perspectives on them.
The movie's overall premise is an intriguing, albeit a strange, one: comic books and their characters are modern forms of hieroglyphics that relate real people and events. I pride myself in being open minded about ideas as unique as this. I do appreciate its uniqueness from a fictionalized standpoint, but I also feel that the idea wasn't developed to the point that it would be remotely within the boundaries of plausibility. I've never really understood the allure of comic books, so that probably makes it a much tougher sell for me. |
