"Ice Age" is a highly enjoyable movie that is very similar in style (and story) to "Monster's, Inc.". Instead of monsters trying to return an adorable child to her home, prehistoric animals are trying to return an adorable child. The major characters are also very similar. It's not quite as good as "MI" (perhaps, because of the similarities), but it's still one of the better movies that you can see - some very funny and clever parts and some very touching and moving parts. Modest action and adventure also create anxious and fun moments. From a creative standpoint, the animation is exceptional.
I'm scratching my head, though, wondering about the PG rating. I really don't think that parents need to be cautious about having their children of any age see it. I know that Hollywood toys with the ratings to appeal to bigger audiences and to hopefully ensure greater revenues. This rating may be an example of that. There's a gulf that separates the subject matter of this movie with a PG-13 movie such as "Bring It On". Compared to other PG movies (let's pick an animated feature like "Atlantis: The Lost Empire"), there's still a significant separation. |
