With every movie, I'm more and more impressed with Cameron Diaz. I always knew she was funny, but ever since "There's Something About Mary", I thought she'd make a great comedic "lead" actress. So when I saw the trailer for "The Sweetest Thing", I knew I was in for some laughs.
Although the characters in this movie are somewhat stereotypical, it was interesting to see them portrayed from the women's perspective. Women hang out with buddies, go clubbin' for guys, and avoid relationships? Who knew? Well, in this movie, the concept worked for the most part. Cameron and Christina Applegate were great together, and I found myself laughing at most every silly gag. It was clear that the director was trying to "out-guy" the guy comedies, and at times it was a little over the top. But hey, what are envelopes for if not to push?
In a nutshell, I thought that this was a funny, unusual romantic comedy that most everyone will enjoy, unless you're an uptight "Ashley Judd" comedy-type person. If you are, loosen up already! |
