WowÉfor once a tag line that didn't take an hour of struggling and straining to only come up with something lame! Who's cares about all of you, I like it!
I like it not only for its brevity, but also for it's subtle double entendre. I'll ruin the effect with an explanation. I laughed quite a bit, despite the movie's utterly ridiculous premise. Get it?
OK, enough of sounding like Matt :)
"Life or Something Like It" was actually far funnier than I expected, which was basically another Meg Ryan/Ashley Judd-type romantic comedy. Angelina Jolie portrays up-and-coming Seattle TV reporter Lanie Kerrigan. Lanie's got her life working on all eight cylinders when out of the blue, a local homeless "savant" tells her that she will die in a week or so. Sounds funny already, doesn't it? Well, the movie is actually carried by the sheer strength of Jolie's performance. Despite seeing something that in any other movie would have you rolling your eyes, you still sit there laughing like a fool in spite of yourself. Like, say for example, when irate striking teamsters all join Lanie in an a cappella rendition of the Rolling Stones "Satisfaction" while picketing. Or the fact that she gives up her entire life's dream because of some stupid prediction which never comes true anyway.
If you like romantic comedies, it's a safe bet that you'll like this movie. There's certainly more comedy than romance in this one. In my opinion it just could have used a little believability. |
