Star Wars Episode II is far better than I had expected. After seeing Star Wars Episode 1: Phantom Menace - I wasn't sure how I was going to adapt to these new series of Star Wars movies... this movie puts it all back into perspective.
This film is visually stunning - with the special effects and scenic shots. Hayden Christensen is believable as a mature Anakin Skywalker - and the beginnings of his demise. Ewan McGregor was a treat as Obi-Wan Kenobi - he brought some levity to a very serious movie. I must admit - Natalie Portman was a little stiff as Senator Amidala, but she fits the mold as the future mother of Princess Leia.
Don't get me wrong - this film has it's fair share of cheesy moments and forgettable lines - but don't they all? Think back to the very first Star Wars movie...it surely had it's fill of cheesy moments. This falls in line with the others. But most importantly, for me anyway, was the fact that things start to tie together more with Episodes 4,5 and 6. Characters are introduced in this film that will occur in the earlier movies -but now their stories are complete.
Do you need to see this film opening weekend? No... but it's a must see in the theaters! |
