Pitch Black…..hmmm, where to start. Well, let me begin with what I liked. The cinematography was interesting, lots of strange shot angles and lighting effects. Beyond that, the movie was at best a let down and at worst, well, the worst!
I know its tough to expect a lot from this genre, but this movie was bad in just about every way a film can be. Lets start with the obvious rip off of the entire “Alien” movie series. It’s Sci-Fi, you can dream up any unbelievable plot line and get away with it. Why couldn’t they start with something original? Next, I hate when everyday people are placed in some life threatening situation and they suddenly become “McGyver”, acquiring skills like carpentry, welding and gorilla warfare out of shear necessity. And how about some dialogue that doesn’t sound like you lifted it out of a bad comic book ?
The standout character in the movie is a played by Vin Diesel (you may remember him from last year’s “Boiler Room”). His character, Riddick, is more WWF than hardened criminal. But Riddick is really the only innovative aspect of the movie. My recommendation is try another one off of the Sci-Fi rack. |
