When I heard Christopher Nolan (writer/director of ÒMementoÓ) was working on a new movie entitled ÒInsomniaÓ, the last thing I expected was for it to be a snoozer. OK, maybe it wasnÕt that bad. But, it was lacking any real excitement or suspense Ð two areas where ÒMementoÓ excelled. To be perfectly fair to Mr. Nolan, his role was limited to directing and my complaints donÕt venture into that environment.
This movie reminded me of another 2002 release entitled ÒMurder by Numbers.Ó Both films had their murders and murderers linked early on in the tale. Since you already knew who did it, the suspense was limited to the gathering of clues and the waiting to see how everything unfolds. To turn that into an exciting adventure seemed to require a little more than either film could offer.
Not bad, but less than I hoped for as a follow-up to ÒMemento.Ó |
