This movie did serve a purpose for me: it made me realize just how much I enjoy dramatic irony - to know information that the characters in the movie do not. In "The Bourne Identity", the characters are left in the dark, but then again, so is the audience. When the dramatic explanation came at the end, it was disappointing, exceedingly lame, and left a salty residue in my mouth.
In addition, there's a sloppy, gaping continuity hole in the plot. Jason Bourne (Matt Damon) stops at a train station and locks his bag of money in a public locker. Later in the film, he is shown with the bag after he just gave $30,000 to Franka Potente (Marie Kreutz). You guessed it: he never returns to the train station to retrieve the loot. Carelessly left on the cutting room floor or forgotten altogether? You decide. |
