"Thirteen Conversations About One Thing" is a precious gem that you must discover (or uncover) amidst the bounteous spoils of movie mediocrity. It's an inventive story, composed of five separate - and connected - subplots. The setting is New York City: populous and impersonal. The single thread that ties these subplots together is the effect that strangers can have on the lives of others. These strangers are very well developed through conversation.
The story isn't exciting. In fact, it's highly tragic and depressing. The acting is better than average. I was totally enamored with the quality, development, and delivery of the movie's concept and theme. To me, this is the movie's greatest success and achievement. |
