If you've seen the other Austin Powers movies and enjoyed them, this one will not disappoint. If this is your first dive into Austin Powers' mojo, you will not fully appreciate the comedy, but you too will really enjoy it. The gags are basically the same from his previous adventures, but the spin on them is fresh enough to be just as hysterical. Cameos by some of Hollywood's elite glitterati have been incorporated into the story to surprise and delite.
Aside from Myers' deft versatility, Beyoncˇ Knowles (of Destiny's Child fame), surprisingly, has the other noteworthy, standout performance as the foxy Foxxy Cleopatra. Admittedly, some of the gags are nearing the end of their useful life (you even see some of them coming long before they arrive), but the laughs are there and the new surprises make it a winner.
It's rare that a sequel can surpass its original. It's even more rare that the sequel's sequel can continue a high level of success. The Austin Powers Trilogy has successfully sustained this excellence, if not actually bettered with each installment. |
