I knew screenwriter M. Night Shyamalan (famous for the movie ÒThe Sixth SenseÓ) intended ÒSignsÓ to be a fresh look at the once mysterious formations known as crop circles Ð something I always found interesting. With that concept, the quality of ÒThe Sixth Sense,Ó and Mel GibsonÕs track record, I had a good feeling that ÒSignsÓ would deliver something special. I was wrong, very wrong.
This alternate view of the mysterious crop creations was suspense free, action free, and basically entertainment free. Halfway through I looked over to one of my theatre cohorts and she said ÒIÕm bored.Ó That summed up the movie perfectly. The only thing that kept me going was the thought that it has to get better, but it didnÕt. In fact, without the acting of the kids (Abigail Breslin and Rory Caulkin) the movie would have been a total loss.
ShyamalanÕs ÒUnbreakableÓ was less than spectacular. His ÒSignsÓ is downright lame. |
