I'm not sure if I was just highly emotional that day or what - but I couldn't keep a dry eye while watching this very moving film.
What outstanding performances from Oscar winners Tom Hanks and Paul Newman. Two top-knotch actors who can play such a wide range of roles. This is definitely a new one for Hanks - who has never played a gangster.
The movie revolves around Michael O'Sullivan, hit man for Irish crime boss, John Rooney (Newman). O'Sullivan is like a son to Rooney - but when O'Sullivan's real son, Michael, witnesses one of his dad's hits, things take a turn for the worst.
Jude Law plays a very convincing scoundrel - who works as a photographer, taking pictures of dead bodies - while on the side does "hits" for cash. The way it all comes together is just masterful.
This is not a feel-good movie. It is a dark movie about the love between father and son. |
