If an alien race were to examine our photo albums, they would think that we're the happiest creatures in the universe. We only capture events that will be pleasant memories - family, weddings, birthdays, trips. We never record the trivial, the mundane, or the melancholy. At least, this is the world view of Seymour Parrish (Robin Williams), a man who has dedicated his life to developing the film and memories of others.
Over the years, Parrish becomes attached to a family who regularly frequents his business. To them, he's a nice man who develops their film, but to him, he fancies himself as an extended member of their family - "Uncle Sy." Williams gives a chillingly convincing performance as the seemingly harmless photo tech who loses his grip on reality.
By design, "One Hour Photo" is very measured and meticulous to reflect the gentle demeanor of Parrish. It almost lulls you into a state of complacency, but the sudden turn of events and is both surprising and confusing. It won't leave you breathless, but you will be entertained. |
