I wasn't sure I wanted to see a movie featuring Eminem. After all, his music has some pretty foul content and there's been times I've turned off the radio to avoid hearing his songs. However, there's also something about his beats and his style that I really like to hear. I guess it was with this hesitation that I agreed to go see his movie. I hoped that the story would be more about a rap musician struggling toward success rather than an ugly statement about urban life.
Turns out I was pretty pleased with what I saw. The movie had much of the foul content that his music contains, but it was definitely toned down. In place of a hateful, disrespectful Eminem, we were presented with an image of a hard-working man trying to make sense of his life.
The film was filled with drama and humor. I thought it was well thought out and overall very entertaining. Just be prepared for things like sexual nudity, bad language and violence. I'm not sure it's worth being exposed to 2 hours of that stuff just to squeeze out some entertainment, but I definitely feel this movie was better than some others I've seen in this regard. |
